Professional Biography
Dr Calina Ouliaris is a Consultant Psychiatrist with a subspecialisation in forensics psychiatry and a keen interest in designing healthcare systems to deliver tailored care to patients and their communities.
She has a unique background, with formal studies in law, economics and psychology and over two decades of experience in providing wellness consulting services across corporate, entrepreneurial, non-profit and academic sectors.
After experiencing burnout in her legal career, Calina became fascinated by the mind-body connection and founded a wellness consultancy focused on sustainable peak performance. Seeking to bridge the gap between medical and wellness approaches, she decided to study medicine and went on to specialise in psychiatry.
Over the past decade, Calina has gained wide-ranging experience in a diverse range of mental health settings across Australia including acute mental health units, hospital-based consultation-liaison medical services, emergency services, community-based clinics, forensic medium and high secure facilities, prison services and tertiary referral services. Along the way, she has been drawn to complex areas where clinical, legal and ethical frameworks intersect and, through her writings, advocated for thoughtful, individualised approaches to patient care.
Calina believes in the importance of combining both top-down (cognitive & behavioural) and bottom-up (somatic) approaches in therapy. Recognising that somatic approaches are often under-utilised in conventional health, she co-founded Dive In™ – a framework that harnesses the restorative benefits of scuba diving to support nervous system regulation and mindbody wellbeing.
Calina has a profound respect for individual values and endeavours to always provide care that honours the complexity of each person’s experience.
